Staying Sane During the Coronavirus Pandemic
Improving Body and Mind
These are interesting times to say the least. Here in the UK we are still in the first few weeks of the Coronavirus pandemic and for now I will be spending a lot of time at home with my family. I am self employed and luckily for me my primary client is still going ahead with the project I am working on for them. At least for the time being anyway, there is no certainty ever, but least of all right now.
While I’m still healthy and able to work from home, I want to make good use of the time not spent commuting. I need to lose some weight for a start. I’ve already lost 2 stone since January, but I want to continue my weight loss. My plan is to lose a further 2.5 stone. A couple of weeks ago I started the Couch to 10k program and I’m half way through week 3. Assuming we don’t go in to full lock down, I plan to continue that, obviously avoiding other people while out on the runs. I also skip using a speed rope and do some basic body weight exercises. I’ve ordered some resistance bands to add a bit more to my home workouts.
Sticking to my diet is either going to be easy or hard depending on what food we can get from the supermarkets. I’ve been following a low carb diet which has really been working for me. I hope to continue with that, unless carb heavy foods are the only things we can get, in that case I will just control the number of calories I consume.
As far as my mind is concerned, I plan to finish the the Data Science courses that I started on Datacamp and read more of my backlog of books. I’m currently reading Statistics without Tears by Derek Rowntree.
I also plan to keep this blog updated daily with how the diet, exercise and learning is coming along.
